IQAC 2009-2010

Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the out come achieved by the end of the year.

A.  Plan of Action Chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning  of the year.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) is functioning in the college as per guidelines issued by the NAAC.  The composition of the cell is given below—

The IQAC after several discussions developed  broad framework of actions that can be undertaken by the college in the long run and short run. They  are presented below –

LONG TERM ACTIONS

  • Set up a new library complex with modern technologies to cater to the increasing information needs of the students and staff. Has applied for UGC assistance.
  • Provide banking facility inside the campus with ATM facility.
  • Provide more computer terminals in the library and departments, so that the faculty and students can make use of the internet and CD search facility frequently.
  • Increasing the existing facility of photocopying and computer printing inside the campus for the use of the students and staff.
  • Take necessary steps for timely delivery of office/University information to the students.  Separate information centre may be opened for this purpose.
  • Take long term measures for protecting the assets (Land, Furniture, Equipments, library books, buildings, teaching aids, computers etc.) of the college. Also provide adequate funds for the operation and maintenance of assets created in the college.
  • Set up a language lab with modern equipments and facilities. This is necessary for developing the communication skill of the students. Has applied for UGC assistance.
  • Provide necessary teaching aids for the departments (Flip-charts, computers, Stenciling and duplicating machines, overhead projector, LCD projector, white boards with marker pens, laptop computers, power point presentation facility etc.)
  • Design various programmes for developing the extension activities of the college(organize awareness programmes, conduct surveys, provide consultancy services , undertake works for the socio-economic development of the society, organize programmes for the upliftment of the poor, socially and educationally backward and marginalized sections of the society).
  • Construction of a high tech auditorium for the benefit of the students of new generation courses.
  • Build up a database of old students at the college level and also at the department level.
  • Take steps for the construction of an indoor stadium. Has applied for UGC assistance.
  • Set up a sports hostel. Has applied for UGC assistance.

SHORT TERM ACTIONS

  • Organize Parent Teacher Association meetings continuously to have an interaction of the teachers, parents and students.
  • Strengthen the Career Guidance and Placement Cell by providing a Room, Computers with Internet facility, Reference books, publications on Higher Studies and Employment and networked with the Career Guidance and Employment Cells of all Universities.
  • Starting of new Degree Programmes in Functional English, Business administration, History, Computer application and PG Programmes in Public Administration and Journalism.
  • Facility for acquiring an additional Degree, Diploma or Certificate by the students along with the regular degree will be provided in as many departments as possible.
  • Encourage teachers without Ph.D degree  to acquire Ph.D within a reasonable period of time.
  • Encourage teachers  to attend refresher/orientation courses at least once in 5 years.
  • All teachers should have at least one Externally Aided Research Project (EAP) at their disposal. With this end in view  teachers will be persuaded to submit at least one good proposal for EAP in a reasonable period of time.
  • Teachers will be encouraged to attend National/International Seminars and Symposia in their respective areas of activity.
  • Teachers will be encouraged to publish books, research papers, review articles etc.
  • All teachers will be equipped with skills in common application software of word processing, data analysis and multi-media presentation.
  • A Public Media Centre will be formed for effectively highlighting all important achievements, events and activities of the college in the print and visual media.
  • Sufficient space, quality furniture, computers, stencil machine, photo copier etc. will be made available for the office.
  • Necessary steps will be taken for automation of the office so that admissions, preparation of pay roll, issue of certificates etc. can be fully computerized.
  • Make administration more open and transparent.
  • Organize skill (writing skill, communication skill, leadership skill, inter-personal skill, decision making skill, computer skill etc.) development programmes for the non-teaching staff on a continuous basis.
  • Using the facilities in the computer centre all students will be made computer literate
  • Organize skill developments programmes for the students.(writing skill, communication skill, leadership skill, inter-personal skill decision-making skill, computer skill etc.)
  • Courses in Communicative English and Creative writing will be offered as additional courses.
  • Extra-curricular activities particularly sports and games will be strengthened.
  • Co-curricular activities will be strengthened.
  • Provide counselling for the needy students on a continuous basis.  Develop mechanisms for identifying the needy students.  Consider it as a priority area.
  • Provide remedial coaching in a sustainable manner.
  • Strengthen the activities of career guidance and placement cell.
  • Encourage the students to participate in the placement programmes of the recruitment agencies.
  • Maintain high standards of student discipline in the college.
  • The students store functioning in the college will be strengthened to meet the increasing  needs of the students.
  • Public telephone booth established in the campus will be properly maintained for the use of students, staff and visitors.
  • Increasing the canteen facility for the students and staff.
  • Activate the grievance redressal mechanism functioning in the college for the students and staff members.
  • Retiring rooms provided for lady staff and girl students will be upgraded with modern amenities and facilities.
  • Conduct awareness programmes for students to make them socially committed.
